historical campus tour

While walking around the campus, you might stumble right into them: cobble stones embedded in the sidewalk pavement, the so-called ‘Stolpersteine’. These monuments created by Gunter Demnig commemorate Jewish Life in the university’s neighbourhood. You can hear the full story and even more about the university’s history on the historical campus tour on Wednesday, July 18. Sign up now, because this tour is limited to only 20 participants!

We thank the historical expert of the University of Hamburg, Eckart Krause, for offering the guided free tour titled ‘Aspects of a Neighbourhood: Our University in the Former Centre of Jewish Life in Hamburg’ on Wednesday evening, July 18, 19:00.

We will host the exhibition iFormations from Canada at DH 2012! We are very excited that we can finally realize this ambitious project by three young Canadian artists and present the work during the conference! In order to simplify matters, we now provide detailed information about budget accommodation for you, ranging from backpacker hostels to young design hotels and short-term led apartments. Apart from the conference hotels where we hold a contingent, you can find a list of budget accommodation here.

Call us optimistic early-birds but we have blocked a large contingent of reservations for conference members at several hotels nearby the campus. An online booking form will be available soon, for more information, click here. The university campus is situated right in the heart of Hamburg.

You can not only reach the conference venue from the hotels within walking distance, but you can also easily get to the Hamburg inner city shopping area, the Planten un Blomen park and gardens, and the Alster Lake as well as cultural attractions such as the Thalia theatre or the Kunsthalle Art Gallery. The nearby Hamburg Dammtor connects you to long-distance trains as well as the Hamburg Public Transport Network through its “S-Bahn” lines (suburban train) and bus services – thus making it a perfect starting point to explore the city.
